How does a heat pump work?
Refrigerant absorbs heat energy from the outside air and converts from a liquid to a gas. A compressor raises its pressure and temperature, then a heat exchanger passes that heat into water that flows through your radiators and underfloor heating. The refrigerant cools, condenses back to a liquid, passes through an expansion valve and the cycle starts again.
Do heat pumps work in cold weather?
Yes - heat pumps operate efficiently down to around -20°C and have been used successfully in colder climates such as Scandinavia for more than 30 years.
What properties are heat pumps suitable for?
Most properties can suit a heat pump, but suitability depends on factors such as insulation, property size and the existing heating system. Our surveyors will assess your home and tell you honestly whether a heat pump is the right fit.
How do modern boilers compare to heat pumps?

It's a detailed room-by-room assessment of your property's heat loss. We review the structure, insulation and fabric of your home to confirm exactly how much heat each room needs in winter, so the system is sized to keep you comfortable and efficient.
How can you provide a quote before the heat loss calculation?
Our qualified heating surveyors combine years of experience with MCS-accredited software during the survey. That lets us make accurate recommendations on radiators, cylinder size and heat pump capacity. The heat-loss calculation then confirms those figures and provides the report required for the BUS grant.
How long do heat pumps last?
