Why choose a heat pump?

Efficient, low-carbon heating for your home.

Heat pumps are an efficient, eco-friendly way to heat your home. They draw energy from the surrounding air and use it to warm your radiators, underfloor heating and hot water. Designed to work in cold temperatures, modern heat pumps deliver up to 4-5 times as much energy in heat as the electricity they consume.

The benefits

Benefits of installing a heat pump.

Reduce carbon emissions

A greener alternative to gas or oil that significantly lowers the carbon footprint of your home heating and hot water.

Lower running costs

Modern heat pumps deliver up to 4-5 units of heat for every unit of electricity used, helping to keep bills in check.

Future-proof your home

With fossil fuel regulations tightening, a heat pump helps protect against rising fuel costs and changing legislation.

Boiler Upgrade Scheme support

Eligible homes can claim up to £9,000* towards installation - we handle the application for you.

*The standard Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant is £7,500. Up to £9,000 is available for homes replacing an oil boiler.

Heat pump FAQs

How does a heat pump work?

Refrigerant absorbs heat energy from the outside air and converts from a liquid to a gas. A compressor raises its pressure and temperature, then a heat exchanger passes that heat into water that flows through your radiators and underfloor heating. The refrigerant cools, condenses back to a liquid, passes through an expansion valve and the cycle starts again.

Do heat pumps work in cold weather?

Yes - heat pumps operate efficiently down to around -20°C and have been used successfully in colder climates such as Scandinavia for more than 30 years.

What properties are heat pumps suitable for?

Most properties can suit a heat pump, but suitability depends on factors such as insulation, property size and the existing heating system. Our surveyors will assess your home and tell you honestly whether a heat pump is the right fit.

How do modern boilers compare to heat pumps?

Modern gas boilers are efficient but rely on fossil fuels and produce carbon emissions at the point of use. Heat pumps use electricity to move renewable heat from the outside air and produce no emissions at the point of use.

What are the running costs of a heat pump?

Heat pumps use electricity to run, but their high efficiency means they typically deliver lower overall heating costs than older fossil-fuel systems - especially when paired with a well-insulated home and a good tariff.

What is a heat pump calculation?

It's a detailed room-by-room assessment of your property's heat loss. We review the structure, insulation and fabric of your home to confirm exactly how much heat each room needs in winter, so the system is sized to keep you comfortable and efficient.

How can you provide a quote before the heat loss calculation?

Our qualified heating surveyors combine years of experience with MCS-accredited software during the survey. That lets us make accurate recommendations on radiators, cylinder size and heat pump capacity. The heat-loss calculation then confirms those figures and provides the report required for the BUS grant.

How long do heat pumps last?

With regular servicing, a well-installed heat pump should last more than 15 years.

What is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is a government scheme that lets eligible homeowners apply for a one-off grant of up to £9,000* towards the purchase and installation of a heat pump.
