Oil Boiler Replacement in Thatcham – From struggling with an old oil boiler to enjoying savings on running costs and more space!

Our customer was struggling with the headache of replacing their old oil boiler. They knew it was the right time but were unsure whether to choose another regular boiler or upgrade to a combi boiler. To give them the space that they required both upstairs and in the kitchen we recommended a Worcester Bosch External combi boiler and a power flush to ensure optimal performance. Now, our customer enjoys a reliable boiler, significant oil savings, and additional space in their kitchen and airing cupboard.

  • We converted the customers’ old unvented heating system to a new external combi boiler, freeing up space by removing the hot water tank and relocating the boiler outside.

  • We recommended the Worcester Bosch Heatslave External Boiler with a rating of ‘excellent’ on Trustpilot and our extended 12 year guarantee.

  • Not only will the customer have increased peace of mind that the new boiler will be reliable for many winters to come but the customer should save as much as £250 on their annual oil bills (based on oil prices as of July 2023).

Choosing A New Oil Boiler

Our customer had lived in their home for just over two years, their oil boiler was more than 20 years old and needed replacing. The boiler was becoming increasingly unreliable, especially in cold weather and yet they still struggled to take the step of replacing the boiler.

In the end it was internal remodelling that spurred them to investigate replacing the oil boiler; their plans involved adding an extra bedroom to the upstairs of the house. The hot water cylinder was situated in the corner of a walk-in wardrobe in the master bedroom, which was to become part of the new room. They wanted to know if moving or removing the hot water tank was feasible to give them more space in this new room. Space was also an issue downstairs, and the couple were keen to explore moving the boiler out of the kitchen to make way for a new fridge-freezer, but had concerns about putting the boiler outside.

The Importance of a Thorough Survey

Zach, our experienced heating advisor, visited the property and took time to familiarise himself with the house and our customers’ future plans. After a thorough survey, Zach presented quotes for two options. The first, replacing the boiler with another regular boiler but relocating the hot water tank into a neighbouring room or into the loft space. The second option was to change the heating system to an external combi boiler, meaning that the hot water tank could be removed altogether.

We joke that our house is the house of horrors and were worried that unknown problems would arise with the plumbing.  We needn’t have worried as your team were amazing from start to finish. From the moment your installers arrived, we knew we’d made the right choice!

The customer had questions about the performance of combi boilers and were worried that it wouldn’t reliably deliver hot water. Zach reassured them that with their water pressure and specific requirements, the recommended Worcester Bosch External Greenslave combi boiler would fully meet their needs.

Following the survey, Michelle, our Sales and Installation Coordinator, was on hand to answer any further questions the customers had and arrange a convenient date for the installation.

The installation was scheduled over 2.5 days and was carried out by two of our experienced installers, Tom and Carl. On arrival, they talked through the plan for the installation, which gave the customer a good idea of what to expect and when they would need access to different rooms for the installation and power flush.

We understand that buying a new boiler or heating system is a big investment.  It may be the first time you’ve bought a new boiler, or several decades since your last purchase – meaning that technology will have advanced.  This can leave you feeling stuck and unable to make a decision.

We take this headache away., using our experience to recommend the most suitable boiler and system based on your needs.

That’s why unless it’s a straightforward swap, we like to visit your home and carry out a full survey, so that you can be confident that your system will serve you efficiently and reliably for many years to come.

Installing The Boiler Outside

Despite being hampered by heavy rain for most of the afternoon on the first day they managed to lay the concrete base ready for the boiler and the customers existing water softener to be put in place on day two. Since it was summer most of the plumbing to the hot water tank could be removed, however, we took steps to ensure the couple were left with hot water overnight.

On the second day, the boiler was fitted, the old hot water tank was removed and a power flush was carried out. Since the customer was unaware of when a power flush was last carried out in the property and there were signs of sludge and debris in the system, we recommended a power flush to prevent the new system from being contaminated and inhibited by debris.

On the final day, the installation was completed – removing the last of the unnecessary pipework, bricking up the hole where the old flue had been and commissioning the boiler.

After: The boiler installed outside on new concrete base, with room for the water softener (outside cabinet to be added).

Our customer now has increased peace of mind that their boiler will be reliable for many many winters to come and will make significant savings on oil, plus is enjoying the added bonus of extra space in the kitchen and airing cupboard.

We would not hesitate to recommend Premier Heating Solutions.  We did have a cheaper quote but we genuinely believe that we would not have got the same service or attention to detail with the alternative company.

Customer Feedback

To be honest we were not looking forward to having the new boiler fitted, and had put it off for too long! Not only was it a big investment, but it felt like it would be a huge upheaval. We joke that our house is the house of horrors and were worried that unknown problems would arise with the plumbing.  We needn’t have worried as your team were amazing from start to finish.

From the moment your installers arrived, we knew we’d made the right choice! There was minimal disruption and they really did think of everything. They weren’t just focused on getting the job done but were asking questions about our plans for the house so that they could complete the installation in a way that would make the most sense. We really appreciated your attention to detail, like the carpet protector, removing the redundant pipework and adjusting the position of the flue away from our bedroom window.

Tom & Carl were really friendly, polite and so tidy! Each day everything was left just as they found it. One of our biggest concerns was our dog, who is a bit of an escape artist and they took so much care ensuring that she was safe.

We would not hesitate to recommend Premier Heating Solutions.  We did have a cheaper quote but we genuinely believe that we would not have got the same service or attention to detail with the alternative company.  Everyone we dealt with at Premier Heating was very extremely professional and had time (and patience) for questions. Tom and Carl are a credit to the company – we couldn’t have asked for anything more!
